Camping

Sonja and I went camping this weekend.  I thought it would be fun to give Kari a break from us and a good time for Sonja and I to have some time together.  We ended up heading down near Mt. Rainer National Forest and spending two nights there.  Sonja likes being outside so she had a great time.

We brought her bike so she could ride around the campground.  This picture was the pinnacle of that experiment.  She is still figuring out how the balance bike works.

On Saturday we drove up to Sunrise.  There was still some snow up there, so we only did a little hike and had a snack.  We also played Old Maid at the picnic benches.  Sonja really liked the visitor center and all the interactive displays they had.

Our campground had an old fir tree that was 9.5 feet in diameter.  Sonja was not impressed.  When I read her the sign about how the tree survived a huge fire 300 hundred years ago and that the fire had left marks on the tree, she was concerned about the fire still being there and refused to get near the tree.  Not included is a picture she took of me standing next to the tree.

Sonja got to take her nap outside.  After a while, I joined her.  I didn't intend to fall asleep, but I was laying there, watching the tall trees sway in the wind, and soon it was an hour later and I was waking up.

Dance Recital

Sonja had her first dance recital today.  For the past few weeks she has been in a "pre" ballet class.  Today's theme was "Alice in Wonderland" and her class did the white rabbit portion.

Snow Day

We had some snow last week. We took a walk as a family to the park. Sonja learned about sledding, snowballs, and snow angels. We tried to make a snowman, but it wouldn't stick. We all had a great time.

Trouble

Yesterday evening, Sonja kept me company while I shoveled the snow in front of our building. We were having a pretty fun time when out of the blue she said, "Hey Dad! Lets steal a car!"
I have no idea where she got the idea. I talked her out of it, for now.

Good Morning 3!

This is our annual birthday photo of Sonja @ 3:25 am.
She's not going to think this is too funny in a few years :)

Patilda

Meet the newest member of our household: Patilda the Caterpillar! Patilda was found in a bunch of celery we bought last week. Rather than throw her outside where she could eat our plants, we decided to keep her. I'm hoping that she will form some kind of cocoon before turning into a butterfly or moth.

Regarding the name, Sonja picked it. I was pushing for Atilla the Catapilla since it invade our home, but Sonja suggested Patilda. The day before we had been at a birthday party for our friend Matilda.
